We Need Your Help

Make a difference in the conservation of Costa Rica’s rivers and rainforest!

“Let the rainforest grow. Let the rivers flow.”

At the Rivers and Forests Alliance, we envision a world where nature and people live in harmony, rivers flow freely and cleanly, forests grow with abundant plant and animal life, and communities thrive with clean water, air, and healthy food.

Alongside our communities, we’re urgently creating solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises. You, too, can make a difference!

Guardians of the Pacuare program

pacuare water

The Guardians of the Pacuare program unites stakeholders from the tourism industry, conservation organizations, and local communities and authorities to preserve the Pacuare River Basin. Projects include reforestations, river cleanups, environmental education, and developing sustainable guidelines for tourism operations on the Pacuare River.

Water quality monitoring

Together with the National Alliance of Rivers and Watersheds of Costa Rica, we are establishing an ongoing water quality monitoring program to understand the environmental health of the Pacuare River and its tributaries and to promote sustainable management practices in the watershed.

Planting trees

We are continuing Rafael Gallo’s 35-year legacy of restoring lost forest connectivity and habitat for animals like endangered jaguars and Great Green Macaws in the Pacuare River Basin. Between 2021 and June 2023, we have held five reforestation events, planting close to 5,000 trees. We are planning between three to four large reforestation events annually.
