On Earth Day 2025, RAFA was honored to welcome volunteers from the London Stock Exchange Group Foundation to Finca San Martín in Tres Equis, Turrialba, for a hands-on day of restoration, learning, and shared purpose.
Together, we planted 320 native trees, directly contributing to reforestation efforts in the Pacuare River Basin and the restoration 
of critical habitat within the Barbilla–Destierro Biological Subcorridor. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with teamwork, laughter, and a genuine commitment to protecting nature. As if on cue, Mother Nature offered her blessing with a gentle rain shortly after planting, giving the young trees a nourishing start.
Restoring Rivers, One Mud Ball at a Time
LSEG Foundation volunteers also completed phase two of a hands-on environmental education activity they had begun earlier in the month with RAFA. During the first phase, we worked together to create mud balls infused with beneficial microorganisms using technology from EM Research Organization Inc.
Now, following the tree planting, the volunteers tossed hundreds of these mud balls into the Pacuare River, helping to clean and oxygenate the water. Each mud ball represents a small but meaningful step toward cleaner water, healthier ecosystems, and a thriving river, reinforcing RAFA’s long-term mission to restore and protect the Pacuare River Basin.
A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future
We closed the day with a visit to Finca Tres Equis, a sustainable farm and valued RAFA partner dedicated to safeguarding local forests and waterways through responsible land stewardship.
